WP1 - Metabonomics
Work package 1 aims at measuring the types & amounts of flavanols (a group of phytonutrients) found in cocoa and other food, & in the human body after the consumpion of flavanol-rich diets.
Innovations
- Development of flavanol-containing test product to be used in clinical trials (WP3) and corresponding control product that does not contain flavanols
- Formulation and validation of analytical method to measure flavanols and metabolites in biological samples to be used for trials in all WP
Key findings
- There is little variation between how people absorb, metabolize, and excrete cocoa flavanols
